All of Britain watched them grow up, from rambunctious 7-year-olds to fortysomething adults.
What began as the documentary
Seven Up in 1964 has turned into a lifelong chronicle, with director Michael Apted revisiting the subjects every seven years to create one of the most unusual real-life narratives in film history.
Director Michael Apted was interviewed by Liz Hayes, of 60 Minutes.
"Forget Big Brother and Survivor. Here's the original, the mother of all reality shows. Just try to imagine it. Your life constantly on show. Not just for a few months, not just once in a lifetime, but all your dreams and disappointments, all yours ups and downs. Everything filmed every seven years and broadcast to the world. Well, that's 7 Up, an extraordinary series of films that began with 14 seven year olds back in the 1960s, and has followed their progress ever since. Initially, it was a mere curiosity, but it's become much, much more. An insight into all our lives."
