Toby Oliver has worked with Jeremy Sims many times, providing free audio visual material for his various theatre productions…in the vain hope that one day Jeremy’s promise of shooting a feature film together would eventually pay off.
In the mean time Toby was forced to look elsewhere for regular employment and, over the last fifteen years, has established a strong reputation as a cinematographer, working in feature films (Looking For Alibrandi, Tom White, Silent Partner, Everynight Everynight), television drama (Love Is A Four Letter Word, Dossa and Joe) and numerous short films, documentaries, commercials and music videos.
During the course of his career Toby has explored many different shooting formats, from the traditional 35mm and 16mm film, through to the myriad of digital video options. Last Train To Freo provided an opportunity to put High Definition to the test. He’s been nominated for Best Cinematography in the AFI and IF awards and received several Gold and Silver Awards from the ACS. He is currently shooting the 26 part drama series Lockie Leonard, adapted from the Tim Winton books.
